Ghene Snowdon, photographer.

Ghene was born in a country with 7,107 islands – the Philippines in 1979. At the age of 11, her mother sent her to craft school to learn different skills from dressmaking, food processing, toy making and bag making. She was then given her first film camera after her graduation which she used with much humour and mischief.

While studying Electronics and Communications  Engineering at Mindanao University of Science and Technology, an opportunity arose that took her to France where she lived for over 10 years and worked in different fields from real estate, to web design and different jobs in the hospitality industry – anything except in IT. Her many experiences gave her useful insight about people from different walks of life – from those who just manage to have a roof over their heads to those who lived in palaces.

Although it may not seem obvious at first, this varied experience was the launching point for her careeer as a professional portrait and wedding photographer. While working in real estate, frustration with the quality of photographs of properties for sale led Ghene to invest in her own SLR and learn the technical aspects of interior and exterior photography and how to make best advantage of the available light. Her interest in people and experience in the hospitality industry gave her the passon for producing portraits that show character and a dislike for “stuffed shirt” studio photography. Finally, Ghene’s experience with IT and web design mean that she was experienced with the art of digital image editing.

Her journey into photography took a serious turn after her daughter (now 5) was born. Her photography career started in 2008, a year after she moved to London with her husband and two children whom she affectionately calls “little monsters”. She loves to photograph people and also enjoys photographing events. A social photographer at heart, she combines different styles for her pictures.

Her open minded approach to creating pictures makes every photography session a unique and fun experience. She does not believe in hard selling (she hates being pushed to buy something herself) and will give you time to enjoy your pictures and to choose the best ones to buy.
