Environmental Portrait

What is an environmental portrait?

An environmental portrait is a portrait taken at the subjects home or workplace and typically shows the subject’s life and surroundings.  Taking photographs of a person in their natural surroundings help better portray their personality and show their character as well as help them be comfortable.

Below is an example of an environmental portrait, the subject Ted, stand on the pavement between the school and the road. The crossing is visible behind him and you can see the school fence beside him.

Ted is the lollipop man at the local school. He is very friendly and every kids knows him (as well as the parents) and he knows all their names too!

  1. That so reminds me of my school days! The lollipop lady was well respected and knew everyones names. If you were spotted crossing up the road and not on the crossing you were reported to the Head and named and shamed in assembly the next morning.
