Child photography & mobile studio

Portrait series

My daughter is in one of her rare moods last night and allowed me totake some pictures.  Although I most often use natural light,  I have the equipment for a mobile studio. It does not require a very big space, only enough to move around without tripping on the light stands or on each other.

The other day,  I bought this black coffee table from Ikea. I wanted to use it for product photography but since I do not have a black train to attach to the background, I made the little girl stand or sit on it.  In the end it was fun, I had my pictures and she have hers (which I am posting on her flickr account very soon).

  1. Nice pic.

I was listening to a lecture by Fiona Senior today (I don’t like children much but one of her images collected £15k for a loan to an advertising agency :-) ) Hearing her talk about how you get children to pose was fascinatiing – and I think you’ve caught some of the same sort of character coming through as she does.

Q How do you get the children to put their hands just so and keep them there?
    Fiona: Nails!

But I’d have thought Superglue would be better… :-)

Actually, its all done with red stick-on dots – which the child will touch and pick at – apparently; and lightening fast responses to a fleeting posre

  2. That Ikea black table looks awesome – why do I keep forgetting about Ikea for studio props!

    Cheers

  3. Thanks Alan :-)

There are a lot of things in Ikea that I want to use for props. Unfortunately I do not have much storage space so I just look and buy what I can integrate in the living room.

  4. Didn’t fire? I think it turned out great. Nice work Ghene
